Wellness Care
At Somerville Animal Hospital we offer biannual and annual physical exams with routine parasite and blood screening. Most problems encountered with a pet occur with little to no symptoms for extended periods of time. Periodontal disease, thyroid conditions, diabetes mellitus, hyperadrenocorticism along with numerous other conditions can go undetected for months to even years. Early diagnosis eliminates or controls these diseases when diagnosed. Our annual and biannual examinations are much more than vaccinations. We urge routine fecal analysis, heartworm testing and blood profiles to diagnose and treat your pet, in order to provide the longest and best quality life possible.
Vaccination (Immunization)
Immunizing your pet against disease is one of the best tools of preventive medicine. Vaccination is an inexpensive protection rather than costly treatment. Vaccinations depend upon region, pet's age, life style and their health conditions. A variety of vaccinations are available for your dog or cat in our office.
At Somerville Animal Hospital we perform all routine surgical procedures such as ovariohysterectomy, castration, and dentistry. We also strive to provide non-elective procedures, including any needed soft tissue surgery and many orthopedic procedures. For those procedures where a specialist is needed, we refer to Medvet Memphis Veterinary Specialist.
At Somerville Animal Hospital we strive to offer the most in possible diagnostics and equipment possible. We can and do perform in house blood testing (CBC/chemistry profile) on our Abaxis Vetscan HM2 and Vetscan VS2. For those diagnostic blood tests we have to send out, we use VCA/Antech veterinary lab. In house digital radiology, as well as cytology, urinalysis, and electrocardiogram are also offered.
Spaying is a general term used to describe the ovariohysterectomy of a female animal. Neutering is a general term used to describe the castration of a male animal. However, neutering is used in reference to both genders. The surgical procedure, available at Somerville Animal Hospital, renders the animal incapable of reproducing.
Our canine boarding facility offers large indoor runs. All boarding canines are walked outside in a secure, enclosed outdoor walking are and run two to three times per day. Our feline patients are housed in three story condominiums that have a private hiding area for each individual cat. The feline boarding area is completely separate from the canine boarding area and from the hospital offering complete privacy and quiet. All boarding patients are cared for 365 days a year.
With 20 years of experience, our groomer, Ms. Jennifer Bizzell combines knowledge, experience and compassion into one amazing package. Available Monday through Friday, Jennifer is ready to pamper and beautify your pet.
A resQ microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted into the pet in a single simple injection, just like a vaccine. The microchip has a code that is unique to your pet, the way your social security number is unique to you. When a pet is found and scanned, the unique code can be traced back to you through your database registration at www.homeagain.com, allowing you and your pet to be happily reunited. At Somerville Animal Hospital, we utilize the resQ microchip for all dogs and cats.
Dental Care
Just like humans, dogs and cats need regular dental cleanings. In fact, unless you brush your dogs teeth daily they are in need of regular dental check ups. Gum disease can be prevented with fluoride and dental cleanings. We offer pet teeth cleaning and extractions as well as more advanced dental procedures based on your dog or cat's unique dental needs.
Pet Foods
We offer a variety of Pet Food in our office for your dog or cat's nutritional and dietary needs.
